Anywho, let's keep this nice and neat, I am:
- A gamer.
- A writer.
- A commentator.
- Human.
- Terrible at lists.
- A bit lazy.
That about sums it up, and should give you enough warning as to what my personality is like. If that isn't enough for you, though, read on -- I have the more lengthy bits below.
The Bio
(No, not that kind.)
I'm in my mid-20's, have spent more time in college than I really should have, and am wandering about life. Gaming, in all its forms, has been my past-time and my passion since the ripe, young age of two. Or three. It was around there. I remember my early days of gaming still. My father had set up an old Atari computer he once used and had a rather large collection of old games he had downloaded from BBS back in the day. That wasn't my only source of gaming, however, as we also had a PC running Windows 3.1. I spent entirely too much time playing the Quest for Glory series and Wolfenstein 3D during those early years. They would also have quite the influence over my gaming preferences in the years to come.
Console gaming was never my forte, even as a youngster. Still, I had a few of the earlier consoles -- Sega Genesis, Playstation, Nintendo 64 and an Xbox. The Xbox was pretty much the end of the line for my console usage and, right around that time, the start of something new for me: MMORPGs.
Over the past decade I would have to say that MMOs have had the biggest impact on my gaming. I've played nearly all that have been on offer -- to at least some degree. It's hard to describe exactly what drew me to them in the first place, apart from the promise of adventure and loots. The social aspect, the newness of the genre, more loots... All of these had some place in drawing me to them, I think. Regardless, they have been my primary focus. Until now, at least.
The Present-Future-Time
These days we have fancy new social media invading every point of our lives. Connecting and sharing has never been easier. Of all the new social sites to pop up, though, it was Google+ that really took my gaming (and myself) in a different direction. I'm talking about gaming via hangouts.Tabletop gaming -- RPGs, in particular -- has always been an interest of mine, but it was never something I could do, easily. Hangouts have managed to make such gaming possible and, because of that, tabletop RPGs are quickly becoming more and more important to not only my gaming but myself. That is the reason that the header of this blog has dice in it and so does my profile picture. The level of depth and complexity that these RPGs can build, the amount of social interaction they create, all of it is very enjoyable and amazing. As someone who has spent most of their gaming time with video games -- the difference is night and day. But, that isn't to say I have turned my back on video (PC, really) gaming.
PC gaming for me now is quite different from what I would have thought it'd be. MOBA/ARTS games have increasingly taken up my time. Digital CCGs are wrecking havoc on what time remains (and my pocket book, seriously). Both genres seem to be holding on for the ride into the foreseeable future. MMOs have taken a back seat, even to the point of not really being around much anymore, but they still hold a place dear to me. It's these changes that really start to indicate the changes I've had in life, I think. Or maybe it's just due to the changes over time in the industry. The only thing I do know, is that these games make up a lot About Me.
